In a collaborative announcement today, Dr. Felix Grawert, the Chief Executive Officer of AIXTRON SE, stated that selecting Penang as a site underscores the company's enduring confidence in Malaysia as a pivotal hub for the semiconductor industry.

"This investment enables AIXTRON to enhance our ability to serve our global clientele more effectively, fortify our operational adaptability, and facilitate the ongoing expansion of cutting-edge semiconductor technologies," states Grawert.

AIXTRON is set to establish a manufacturing plant in the Bandar Cassia Technology Park, having secured 8.5 acres for the development of a comprehensive facility. This facility will include a three-story office structure, cutting-edge cleanrooms, and specialized logistics spaces, according to the statement.

Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid, the Chief Executive Officer of MIDA, remarked that AIXTRON's choice serves as a substantial affirmation of Malaysia's capability to accommodate sophisticated sectors within the international semiconductor value chain.

"The impact of these spillover effects will be substantial, leading to the creation of numerous high-tech job opportunities. This will allow local talent to access a wide range of positions requiring advanced technical skills, while also incorporating our regional vendors into a prestigious global supply chain network," states Sikh Shamsul.

Malaysia is transitioning from its traditional focus on assembly-based operations to establishing itself as a global center for key facilitators of artificial intelligence and electric vehicle transformations, he adds.

The announcement indicated that constructing the facility from inception has allowed for significant customization and optimization, ensuring the manufacturing of AIXTRON's 100 millimeter (mm), 150 mm, and 200 mm products is conducted with exceptional efficiency. The announcement detailed that the modular architecture will confer adaptability and permit incremental growth consistent with prospective market requirements.
