Moma International, a prominent architecture and interior design firm, has reported that it has reached a significant construction milestone on its luxurious beachfront project, J1 Hotel, in Dubai with the successful completion of 65,000 cu m of concrete pouring by the project team, achieving five million safe man hours.

Moma International is the primary consultant for the hotel’s architecture, interior design, and landscaping, overseeing the multidisciplinary design and its execution during construction, while Carter Hones Associates is delivering project and commercial management services, supported by a larger consultant team comprising John R Harris & Partners, SEED Consulting Engineers, and Dutco Construction.

The project team has accomplished this significant milestone and is now moving into the subsequent construction phases, which involve interior fit-out, façade, MEP, and finishing works, it noted.

Set to debut in Q4 2027, the hotel will be the inaugural Gran Meliá establishment in the UAE, introducing the Spanish luxury hotel brand to the nation.

On the key milestone, Monica Merhebi, Co-Founder and Creative Director at Moma International, says, "The substantial completion of the concrete works is an important milestone for this property. We are now seeing the design vision increasingly take physical form as the project moves into the next stages."

Situated on the coastline at Port de La Mer in Jumeirah, the hotel will feature 366 rooms and suites, which include 40 upscale units with private pools, uniting luxury hospitality, dining, wellness, leisure, and event venues in one waterfront location.

According to Moma, glass installation and façade glazing are currently in progress as the building moves closer to being enclosed, while work inside the property persists.

In the guest room sections, ceiling installation activities are continuing, showcasing additional progress in the interior fit-out schedule, it noted. The initiative is progressing in adherence to the Dubai Green Building Code and integrates a grey water treatment system to promote water conservation and sustainable practices, it states.

Created to engage with its notable waterfront location, the project takes place on one of Dubai’s few remaining prime coastal sites - a distinct peninsula framed by water on three sides. The J1 Hotel will provide direct access to the beach and views of the sea and Dubai skyline.

The seaside setting has shaped the design of the outdoor guest spaces, pools, terraces, and dining areas, with the project intended to link with the broader Port de La Mer community.

The hotel will include four swimming pools set in landscaped gardens, a rooftop terrace, a ballroom, facilities for meetings and events, and a fitness center. The destination dining initiative will feature Zuma Beach House, Park Chinois, Novikov Restaurant & Beach Club, Jul’s, and Tala, along with a rooftop wellness location by Journée Wellbeing.
