Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon Appointed to UN Global Compact Board

imgChoi Soo-yeon, CEO of Naver, has been selected to serve on the board of directors for the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), acknowledging her influential role in worldwide conversations about creating a more secure artificial intelligence environment.

For the upcoming three-year period, Choi will participate as a board member in routine meetings and significant UNGC initiatives.

The UNGC represents the largest global corporate sustainability program, encompassing over 25,000 businesses and organizations across 167 nations. The initiative supports companies in implementing responsible business practices for long-term sustainable development.

The UNGC recognized Choi's influential role in international conversations about AI oversight and her contributions to developing ethical and accountable standards for AI technology advancement. In February, Choi participated alongside international leaders at the AI Action Summit in Paris, where she presented her vision for AI progress and inclusivity within the digital landscape.

Additionally, she introduced an AI safety framework in June designed to identify and address potential risks across the complete AI system lifecycle.

 

The UNGC also emphasized Choi's contributions in establishing Naver Ventures in Silicon Valley, California, which assists in identifying innovative global startups and building a cooperative business environment. In 2024, she introduced Naver Impact, an initiative that presents sustainable development models for communities, small enterprises, and emerging companies.

Choi is expected to participate in the next UNGC board meeting taking place at the United Nations headquarters in New York  according to local time.
