PhonePe Gets UAE Payment Licenses to Support Aani and Jaywan

Fintech giant PhonePe has obtained preliminary approval for two payment licenses in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and intends to assist Aani and Jaywan, the Gulf country's versions of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and RuPay.
PhonePe has obtained preliminary approval for Retail Payment Services and Card Schemes (RPSCS) and Stored Value Facilities (SVF) licenses from the Central Bank of the UAE.
“PhonePe aims to investigate possibilities to assist ‘Aani’ and ‘Jaywan’, the UAE's local payment infrastructure, by utilizing its comprehensive technology platform,” the Bengaluru-based firm stated.
The company is anticipating regulatory approvals prior to its commercial debut in the UAE.
The emphasis on the UAE arises as the company has paused its initial public offering (IPO) plans in March due to a conflict in the West Asian area and increased market instability.
In India, the app is the biggest UPI company. It boasts more than 700 million registered users and 50 million merchants.

“PhonePe plans to emphasize extensive integration within its ecosystem as a key element of its market strategy.” "Following the acquisition of final regulatory approval, the company is eager to partner with regional banks, authorized payment service providers, and local tech vendors to vigorously promote the cashless economy vision set forth by the UAE leadership," PhonePe stated.
Earlier this month, PhonePe co-founder and CEO Sameer Nigam stated that the licenses would enable the company to provide consumer payment methods like wallets and gift cards, as well as supply e-payment processing infrastructure to retailers.
This signifies the first global market for the Bengaluru-based company where PhonePe will function domestically.
