PM Urges Revamping Approach to International Relations

The Prime Minister instructed the diplomatic corps to maintain its leadership position and fundamentally transform its strategic thinking and methodologies regarding international engagement

He emphasized the need to take the initiative in expanding and strengthening diplomatic connections with adjacent nations, global powers, other countries in Southeast Asia, strategic allies, longstanding diplomatic partners, and emerging potential collaborators, with the ultimate goal of building mutual confidence and establishing enduring diplomatic relationships.

While speaking at a motivational gathering focused on patriotism within the Foreign Affairs Ministry, which was planning strategic objectives for the years 2025–2030, and held on November 10.

The Prime Minister—who simultaneously serves as the head of the Central Council responsible for recognizing and rewarding achievements—urged diplomatic professionals to maximize existing collaborative relationships and enhance Vietnam's influence and contributions across international political spheres, global economic platforms, and broader human societal development.

He praised the diplomatic sector's recent accomplishments and initiatives, especially in launching and successfully executing emulation campaigns. He commended the outstanding groups and individuals recognized at the Congress, emphasizing that they contribute to portraying Vietnamese diplomats as dedicated, adaptable, principled, determined, well-informed, and innovative.

While discussing the nation's upcoming strategic development plans, the Prime Minister highlighted how the changing international landscape introduces novel challenges for diplomatic strategy and governmental responsibilities.

 

He underscored that performance improvement initiatives must be purposefully aligned with political strategies, focusing on increasing operational efficiency and avoiding superficial compliance.

The Prime Minister further articulated that diplomatic engagement should fundamentally rest on core principles: recognizing that global unity generates collective strength, collaborative interactions yield mutual advantages, and diplomatic exchanges foster mutual understanding and trust; additionally, he emphasized that diplomatic representatives must demonstrate their capabilities, self-assurance, and creative problem-solving skills.

He emphasized the importance of making several key areas of diplomacy work better, such as economic, scientific, technological, and cultural communication with other countries. He also highlighted the need to improve information services for foreign representatives and manage overseas Vietnamese matters more effectively.

Additionally, he stressed the importance of protecting citizens' interests. The ultimate goal of these improvements is to draw in high-quality investments, help transfer advanced technologies, and open up new markets for selling and buying goods.  He asked the ministry to coordinate and manage international activities that involve the Party, the government, and people-to-people interactions in a comprehensive and synchronized manner.
