PM Urges Semiconductor Group to Set Up R&D Centre in Vietnam

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has encouraged ASML to speed up the creation of a semiconductor training, research, and development center in Vietnam. This request was made during a meeting with Eduard Stiphout, Senior Vice President of the Dutch technology corporation, in Hanoi.

The leader emphasized that the Government appreciates the interest expressed by the top semiconductor group in Vietnam, seeing it as a strong sign of confidence from global technology companies in the country's potential for cooperation and investment environment.

He observed that this would enhance and reinforce the relationship between Vietnam and the Netherlands in a meaningful and efficient way, aligning with the goals of senior officials from both nations, especially in the fields of science, technology, innovation, and digital advancement.

He also mentioned that Vietnam has established a semiconductor ecosystem with several prominent international companies like Samsung, Intel, NVIDIA, VDL-ETG, Tecnotion, and Coherent, as well as local technology firms such as Viettel, FPT, and VSAP Lab, showing great potential for collaboration. PM Chinh urged ASML to assist and link up with competent Vietnamese businesses to enable them to have a greater involvement in its worldwide supply networks.

This will help in broadening and strengthening the resilience of the group's supply chains in the Asian area. He also pushed ASML to consider opening a representative office in Vietnam to enhance direct involvement and showcase the company's long-term strategic dedication.This move would assist Vietnamese businesses in advancing digital infrastructure, semiconductor production, research, testing, and technical services. It would also offer guidance on technology standards and management methods to support the growth of domestic production capacity.

The Government leader recommended that the Dutch company enhance training programs, exchange of experts, internships, and scholarships for the semiconductor industry in the country.

He also reassured that the Vietnamese Government is dedicated to supporting and providing favorable conditions for foreign companies like ASML to invest and operate effectively and long-term in Vietnam.

 

Praising Vietnam's development strategy focused on science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, including the growth of the semiconductor industry, the vice president of ASML mentioned the group's willingness to actively participate in Vietnam's semiconductor sector. Stiphout expressed agreement with his host's opinions, mentioning that his company is currently exploring the option of broadening its supply chain in Vietnam.

They are also discussing potential collaboration in setting up a training, research, and development center, contemplating establishing a formal presence in the country, and evaluating potential opportunities to provide equipment to potential clients. He mentioned that these initiatives would help in the growth of Vietnam's semiconductor industry, as outlined by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
