Prabowo Backs IIM, IIT Campuses for Indonesia-India Education

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expressed his support for the establishment of an Indian Institutes of Management (IIM) campus in Indonesia and the exploration of an Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) branch.
In a joint statement after a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Merdeka Palace, Prabowo mentioned that this support signifies the dedication of both countries to enhancing collaboration in education, research, technology, culture, and interpersonal relations.

Alongside endorsing the establishment of IIM and IIT campuses in Indonesia, Prabowo mentioned that the Indonesian government also promotes raising the number of Indonesian students seeking higher education in India.
In the cultural sector, the president stated that Indonesia supports initiatives for the restoration and conservation of the Prambanan Temple Compounds, a UNESCO World Heritage site located in Yogyakarta. The government similarly appreciates the designation of 2026–2027 as the Tagore-Dewantara Year for cultural and educational diplomacy between Indonesia and India.
The event celebrates the hundredth anniversary of the encounter between Indian poet and thinker Rabindranath Tagore and Ki Hajar Dewantara, the pioneer of education in Indonesia.
Prabowo conveyed confidence that the deals made between Indonesia and India would shortly be implemented into tangible actions. "We are confident that these agreements can be implemented soon to deliver tangible results and benefits for the people of both nations," he says.

In the meantime, Prime Minister Modi mentioned that the creation of an Indian Institute of Management Bangalore campus in Indonesia would provide significant educational opportunities for youth throughout Asia.
Aside from education, Modi mentioned that India and Indonesia had also consented to enhance collaboration in the space industry, technology advancement, and building human resource capabilities.
Furthermore, the Indonesian and Indian governments have come to an agreement to work together on the restoration and conservation of the Prambanan Temple Complex and have appointed 2026–2027 as the Tagore-Dewantara Year to enhance cultural diplomacy between the nations.
Prabowo stated that the revival of the Prambanan Temple Complex embodies the profound historical and cultural connections that have united Indonesia and India for ages. The pledge was additionally reiterated in the joint statement of the two leaders for 2025. He mentioned that the restoration initiative will be conducted in collaboration with the Indonesian government and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). During his state visit to Indonesia, Prime Minister Modi is set to tour the Prambanan Temple Complex.

The two nations similarly chose 2026–2027 as the Tagore-Dewantara Year to encourage stronger cultural and educational interactions. The title honors the significant encounter in 1927 between Indonesian education leader Ki Hajar Dewantara and Indian poet, philosopher, and Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore in Yogyakarta.
