Prabowo Orders Measures to Secure Christmas, New Year Activities

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has directed government officials and security personnel to implement necessary measures to facilitate the orderly and secure observance of the Christmas and New Year celebrations in 2025 and 2026 throughout the country.
The president's directive was communicated by Chief of the National Police (Polri) General Listyo Sigit Prabowo during an inspection at Merak Port in Banten, West Java, in the presence of Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo, and Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

“The President is giving full attention to activities during the year-end holidays. He has instructed us to provide conveniences and top-notch services for residents traveling during the holiday period, responding to the challenging weather conditions that have been forecast”, he notes.
He emphasized the significance of all pertinent establishments being vigilant about disaster vulnerabilities in Banten Province during the holiday season, referencing a report from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
Prabowo stated that the BMKG has identified Banten as a province anticipated to receive significant rainfall as the year 2025 comes to an end.
Upon contemplation of the repercussions of Cyclone Senyar, which instigated extensive flooding and landslides in Sumatra towards the end of November, the chief of police emphasized the importance of all personnel considering weather forecasts and other relevant information provided by the BMKG in order to preemptively mitigate risks.

"I want you to pay attention to risks and do not underestimate them. Continue to follow updates from the BMKG and forward information to the public," he told his ranks.
The commander highlighted the importance of being prepared for end-of-year sea travel, emphasizing the need to take precautionary steps in response to inclement weather and hazardous waves.
"It is crucial to provide safe public waiting places, enhance communication, and prepare equipment and personnel to handle possible issues caused by heavy rainfall and other factors," Prabowo affirmed.

During his tour of Merak Port, the leader of the Polri organization assessed a variety of equipment, amenities, and infrastructure components, which encompassed two disaster response centers, a personnel station, three search and rescue vehicles, a fire engine, a tow truck, and an ambulance.
