Prabowo Welcomes Qatari Deputy PM at Merdeka Palace

President Prabowo Subianto received Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al-Thani at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta.
Sheikh Saoud delivered a unique message from Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to President Prabowo in the meeting.
The gathering, conducted in the presidential office at Merdeka Palace, occurred privately. The Palace also refrained from revealing the exact message conveyed by the Qatari Emir to President Prabowo.

Previously, President Prabowo and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Saoud addressed several topics concerning collaboration between the two nations across different sectors, including those established in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on April 13, 2025.
The signing of the MoU, pertaining to the Strategic Dialogue between the Governments of Indonesia and Qatar, was observed by President Prabowo and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in Doha, Qatar.
The strategic dialogue forum between the two nations aims to enhance collaboration in important sectors, such as foreign and regional policy; defense and security; counterterrorism; economic connections, particularly trade and investment; alongside cultural exchange and interpersonal relations.
The Presidential Secretariat characterized the discussion between President Prabowo and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Saoud as held in a cordial and amicable environment.
According to a statement from the Presidential Secretariat, this meeting is a continuation of the collaborative endeavors by Indonesia and Qatar aimed at enhancing a strategic partnership that benefits both nations and aids in promoting regional stability and prosperity.

Additionally, Indonesia is seeking collaboration with Qatar to establish sports academies and enhance sports tourism, stated its youth and sports minister following a meeting with the ambassador of the Gulf nation in Jakarta. In a meeting at the ministry's office in Senayan, Jakarta, on Thursday, Thohir and his team talked about possible strategic partnerships with Ambassador Sultan bin Mubarak Al-Dosari.
Joined by ministry secretary Gunawan Suswantoro and advisors, the minister concentrated on possibilities to establish enduring bilateral cooperation in sports development and associated fields.
Thohir mentioned that Indonesia intends to create a unified sports ecosystem in conjunction with sports-driven tourism, aiming to model successful international frameworks to enhance athlete development and industry expansion.

He emphasized the Aspire Zone Foundation as an illustration, pointing out its holistic method that covers athlete training, sports science, and infrastructure management within an integrated system. He stated that the meeting represented a significant move towards investigating wider collaboration prospects, especially in the sports and tourism sectors, to guarantee sustainable development of Indonesia's sports environment.
