President Lee Jae Myung will meet with executives from major tech companies during his trip to the US later this week, according to his office, emphasizing Korea’s expanding position in the global artificial intelligence (AI) sector and enhancing relationships with important players in the industry.
Lee will begin a journey to five countries on Friday, traveling to Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Germany, and the US.
National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac and presidential chief of staff for policy Kim Yong-bum stated that Lee is scheduled to meet with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, and Broadcom CEO Hock Tan in individual meetings in San Francisco. The presidential office stated that the gatherings are included in the president’s agenda to connect with international AI leaders and venture capitalists from Silicon Valley.

The presidential office announced that Lee will participate in the San Francisco AI Summit and will meet with Samsung Electronics Executive Chairman Lee Jae-yong, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Chung Euisun, and Naver Board Chair Lee Hae-jin to talk about large-scale AI initiatives for Korea.
The president is set to observe the signing of agreements between Korean companies and tech giants, and will declare at the summit that Korea will transform into an "essential" nation in the global AI landscape.
In addition to the president, leaders from Samsung Electronics, SK Group, Hyundai Motor Group, and Naver are anticipated to convene with the CEOs of Nvidia, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Broadcom at the summit, representing an uncommon assembly of worldwide AI industry executives.
A roundtable meeting is scheduled, where conversations will likely center on enhancing collaboration in memory chips, GPU infrastructure, and generative AI services due to the increasing demand for AI technologies.
The meeting would be historic, uniting executives from the world's top two memory chip manufacturers, Samsung Electronics and SK Group's SK hynix, AI chip frontrunner Nvidia, along with generative AI creators Naver, OpenAI, and Anthropic.

A little more than a month ago, Huang traveled to Korea and conducted individual meetings with top officials from Samsung, SK, Hyundai, LG, and Naver. This forthcoming event in the US highlights Nvidia's dedication to enhancing collaborations with Korean companies, which are now regarded not merely as memory providers but as vital allies in the worldwide AI infrastructure landscape.
Samsung Electronics and SK hynix currently provide high-bandwidth memory (HBM) along with other cutting-edge memory products to Nvidia. Samsung Electronics and SK hynix's HBM4 chips are set to be part of Nvidia's upcoming AI accelerator, Vera Rubin, anticipated to hit the market in the latter half of this year. Samsung and SK additionally supply memory for OpenAI’s exclusive AI chips and finalized a contract last year to deliver high-performance memory for Stargate, a multibillion-dollar AI infrastructure initiative.
