RoK President and Spouse Conclude State Visit to Vietnam

President Lee Jae Myung of the Republic of Korea (RoK) and his wife departed from Ha Noi on April 24, bringing their successful four-day state visit to Vietnam to a close.

Their visit was made at the invitation of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and State President To Lam and his spouse.

While visiting Vietnam, President Lee and his spouse honored President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum. General Secretary of the Party and State President, To Lam, along with his wife, Ngo Phuong Ly, held a formal welcome event and state dinner to honor the visitors from Korea.

The two leaders jointly led a press conference to disclose the results of their discussions and observed the signing of 12 cooperation agreements between the ministries and sectors of both countries. During the visit, Vietnam's top leader and their spouse hosted a special friendship event at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel to welcome the President of South Korea and their spouse.

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man each had individual meetings with President Lee. Additionally, the Vietnamese Prime Minister and the President of the Republic of Korea jointly led a roundtable discussion and participated in the Vietnam–Republic of Korea Economic Forum.

During the discussions and meetings, the leaders of Vietnam extended a warm welcome to President Lee, his spouse, and the high-level South Korean government delegation on their official state visit to Vietnam.

 

They expressed their gratitude toward President Lee for being the first international visitor after Vietnam solidified its leadership following the 16th National Assembly election, emphasizing that the visit clearly showcases the robust and effective Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the high degree of political trust between the two nations.

The President of the Republic of Korea shared his happiness about returning to Vietnam and seeing its lively progress with his own eyes. He extended his congratulations to Party General Secretary To Lam for being chosen as State President by the 16th National Assembly.

He also expressed confidence that, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, with Party General Secretary and State President Lam at the helm, Vietnam will keep making major strides in socio-economic development. He confirmed that the relationship between the two countries is special and close, similar to that of brothers.

He also promised that South Korea will continue to be a trustworthy partner, supporting Vietnam in its aspiration to achieve the status of an upper-middle-income developing nation by 2030 and a high-income developed nation by 2045. Drawing from the successful collaborative achievements in recent years, the leaders of both nations confirmed their commitment to advancing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and South Korea, aiming for a future of mutual prosperity.

In a cordial and welcoming environment, both parties engaged in thorough discussions about the circumstances in each nation, their bilateral relationships, and regional and global matters of shared interest. They highlighted the importance of pursuing a strategic approach to economic connectivity in the current environment, aiming to reach a bilateral trade volume of 150 billion USD by 2030.

In Hanoi, the wives of both leaders toured the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology. Additionally, the First Lady of South Korea took part in the Korea Culture and Tourism Festival 2026 in Hanoi, which was co-hosted by the Korea Tourism Organization in Vietnam and the Korean Cultural Center in Vietnam.

During their visit on the evening of April 23, the President of the Republic of Korea and his spouse took a walk around Hoan Kiem Lake, savored "pho" (a classic Vietnamese noodle soup with chicken or beef) at a restaurant on Dinh Liet Street, tried Thuy Ta ice cream, and toured the streets of the capital. The visit to Vietnam by South Korean President Lee and his spouse occurred during a period when the relationship between the two countries was at its most developed, paving the way for a new chapter with long-term strategic goals.
