Samsung Electronics Names Mobile Chief as Co-CEO

Samsung Electronics has appointed Roh Tae-moon as co-CEO to oversee its device business, including the mobile device division, where he currently serves as the head. He will lead the company alongside Jun Young-hyun, who is the CEO of the chip division.
Samsung has reinstated its co-CEO structure with the most recent appointment, occurring almost nine months following the passing of former Vice Chairman Han Jong-hee in March.
The company believes that the implementation of the co-CEO system will enhance its primary operations and provide a steady management foundation during times of growing uncertainties, as well as prepare the company for the acquisition of upcoming technologies.

As per the announcement, Roh, who had been acting as the head of Samsung's Device Experience (DX) division since April, was formally appointed to the role of co-CEO of the company. He will also maintain his leadership of the Mobile Experience (MX) business, a subunit of the DX division.
Roh, a Ph.D. graduate from Pohang University of Science and Technology, is recognized for being one of the youngest executives at Samsung, achieving the position of president in 2018, 21 years after starting at the company.
His leadership is praised for the success of the Galaxy S25 series and the Galaxy Fold 7, contributing to the MX division's impressive 100.3 trillion won ($68.12 billion) in sales from January to September this year.

Industry experts attribute the growth in sales to the innovative AI capabilities of the S25 and the unique design of the Fold7.
Jun, who is a vice chairman, will stay on as co-CEO and will still be in charge of the chipmaking Device Solutions (DS) division and the memory business. Nevertheless, he will pass on the responsibility of leading Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT) to Park Hong-kun. Park is set to join the company on January 1 as president.
Park holds the title of Mark Hyman Jr. Professor of Chemistry and also serves as a professor of physics at Harvard University. He is a highly respected expert in the areas of nanoscience, quantum science, and engineering.
Samsung has announced that it will retain the current leadership structure of its two division heads overseeing the MX and memory business in order to enhance its competitive edge. To enhance its technological expertise, Samsung appointed Yoon Jang-hyun as president, who was formerly the CEO of Samsung Venture Investment. His new role includes serving as the chief technology officer (CTO) of the DX division and leading Samsung Research.

Samsung has announced the appointment of experienced professionals to lead the research on future semiconductor technologies and facilitate the shift towards becoming an AI-focused organization.
Samsung's recent reshuffling is viewed as a move to prioritize stability in the face of increasing market uncertainties. There were previous speculations about the company possibly revamping its president-level leadership to reinvigorate the entire organization, but the actual appointments show that Samsung has opted for continuity over drastic changes. Since unexpectedly promoting two presidents in March and April, there is speculation that more surprise appointments may occur this year within the company.
Despite most heads of major business departments staying in their current roles, Samsung has stated that it will soon reveal a VP-level reshuffle and other organizational adjustments.
