Singapore to Strengthen Partnership with IN-SPACe

Lawrence Wong, the Prime Minister of Singapore, will land in India this evening for a three-day trip. Wong will engage in bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and have a meeting with the Indian Industry & Business.

Several deals are expected to be signed during Wong's visit, which will include a meeting with the Indian industry and business, covering skill development, finance, digital sectors, civil aviation, space cooperation, and shipping. In their meeting in Singapore last September, Prime Minister Modi and Wong agreed to upgrade the bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The visiting official will also meet with President Droupadi Murmu. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan will likewise engage with Wong.

India and Singapore conducted the third round of the Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) last month while a delegation from Singapore, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, visited India. Discussions took place with the Indian delegation, which featured Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw

To accomplish this goal, the Union Cabinet under the Prime Minister made the landmark decision in June 2020 to liberalize the Space sector and allow Indian private entities to participate in all aspects of space activities.

IN-SPACe serves as a centralized agency for all space sector activities involving private companies, playing a significant role in enhancing the private space economy in India.

IN-SPACe is tasked with promoting, enabling, authorizing, and overseeing various space activities of the NGEs, which encompass, among other things, the construction of launch vehicles and satellites, as well as offering space-based services; facilitating the sharing of space infrastructure and facilities managed by DOS/ISRO; and the creation of new space infrastructure and facilities.
