U.S. President Donald Trump started one of the most active days of his Asia visit by warmly welcoming the new Japanese prime minister, intending to later address U.S. troops on an aircraft carrier and interact with business leaders.

Even though Trump is traveling to one of America’s most loyal allies in Asia, a great deal of uncertainty remains during his visit. Sanae Takaichi, who recently became the nation’s first female prime minister, needs to strengthen her ties with Trump while safeguarding her country’s economic interests.

Trump is working to secure $550 billion in Japanese investments as part of a trade agreement that would lower U.S. tariffs.

During their meeting on Tuesday, Trump and Takaichi exchanged a handshake, and he remarked, “You have a very strong handshake.”

In exchange, Takaichi mentioned viewing the third match of the U.S. World Series prior to the occasion. She mentioned that Japan plans to send Washington 250 cherry trees next year to celebrate America's 250th anniversary, along with fireworks from Akita Prefecture for the July 4 festivities.

She referenced former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, her staunchly conservative mentor, in her initial comments, highlighting the strong connection they developed with Trump during his first term due to their mutual passion for golf.

"Indeed, Prime Minister Abe frequently shared with me stories of your energetic diplomacy," she remarked.

Trump referred to her position as Japan's first female prime minister as a “big deal,” highlighting the U.S. dedication to Japan. Although the president has previously reprimanded his international peers in public, he expressed only admiration for Tackaichi.

“Whatever I can do to assist Japan, we will be there,” Trump stated. “We stand as a powerful ally.”
