Vietnam values its connections with traditional allies in Latin America, considering Mexico one of its key partners, rooted in mutual bilateral, global, and regional interests, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung stated during his phone conversation with Mexican Secretary of Foreign Affairs Roberto Velasco Álvarez.
Trung passed along greetings and an invitation from To Lam, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and State President, to Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum for an official visit to Vietnam at a suitable time.
Vietnam aims to develop a meaningful and efficient relationship and create a new partnership framework that aligns with the level of bilateral connections, he stated, noting that Vietnam backs Mexico’s initiatives to strengthen relations with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), thereby enhancing peace, cooperation, and development between the two regions.

The Vietnamese minister suggested that the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs collaborate closely with Mexico's ministries and agencies to enhance market access for products from both nations.
Velasco Álvarez expressed greetings from President Sheinbaum to General Secretary and President Lam, stating that Mexico aims to establish a long-term, friendly, strategic, and stable partnership with Vietnam.

He commended Vietnam’s achievements in socio-economic development and its increasing global status, and confirmed that the Mexican Government appreciates friendship and collaboration with Vietnam as part of its overarching policy towards ASEAN and the Asia-Pacific region.
The two ministers acknowledged progress in diverse collaboration, highlighting that bilateral channels, such as political consultations and the Viet Nam-Mexico Joint Committee for Economic, Trade, and Investment Cooperation, have been consistently upheld, while legal structures have been executed efficiently and new agreements across different areas are being negotiated.
Two-way trade has kept expanding swiftly, supported by the successful implementation of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), of which both nations are part, they stated.
The ministers reached an agreement to collaborate closely to enhance bilateral relations, promote high-level interactions and visits, efficiently implement cooperation frameworks, aim for the signing of significant cooperation agreements, optimize the advantages of the CPTPP, and bolster coordination within APEC, as Vietnam and Mexico are scheduled to host APEC Year in 2027 and 2028, respectively.

Both officials agreed to maintain collaboration and reciprocal assistance at international organizations and multilateral forums.
