Vietnam and Thailand to Foster Cooperation in Potential Areas

Vietnam and Thailand will enhance collaboration in promising sectors like clean energy, the digital economy, the green economy, innovation, and high-tech agriculture, announced To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and President of Viet Nam, during a press conference in Bangkok on May 28 after discussions with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul.
Both parties placed great importance on the positive developments in Vietnam – Thailand relations in recent years, observing that political trust has been consistently reinforced, defense and security collaboration has improved, and economic, trade, and investment cooperation continues to stand out.

Exchanges among individuals have continued to be lively, and collaboration at regional and international gatherings, particularly within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), has grown more intimate.
Based on that, he remarked, both parties engaged in thorough discussions about strategies and actions to enhance the relationship between Vietnam and Thailand in a stronger, more sustainable, and effective way.
Vietnam and Thailand consented to strengthen political trust as the foundation for a lasting and strong relationship between the two nations; encourage high-level and various-level exchanges and communications across all avenues and sectors; improve the efficiency of current cooperation mechanisms; and sustain and advance the effectiveness of defense and security cooperation frameworks.

They committed to enhance collaboration in addressing transnational crime and intensify the discussions and ratification of bilateral legal cooperation accords. The Vietnamese leader pointed out their renewed dedication to stopping any person or entity from utilizing one nation's territory to harm another.
General Secretary and President Lam emphasized that the two nations will enhance cooperation in prospective areas while strengthening connectivity in transport and logistics infrastructure and efficiently utilizing economic corridors in the Mekong sub-region, particularly the East-West Economic Corridor, to ease the movement of goods and services between the countries and throughout the region.
Concerning cooperation between localities, he mentioned that both parties will improve collaboration effectiveness, boost tourism promotion, reinforce cultural and educational connections, and increase exchanges among people, especially the youth, thus enhancing mutual understanding and relationships between the two communities.
Expressing gratitude for the Thai Government’s focus on and assistance to the Vietnamese community in Thailand, he emphasized that the community acts as an important link in bilateral relations and is essential in efforts to maintain and strengthen the friendship and connection between the people of both nations.
Regarding regional and international matters, General Secretary and President Lam emphasized the significance of upholding ASEAN's solidarity and central role. He stated that both parties consented to enhance collaboration on matters of shared interest, such as fostering peace, stability, security, safety, and freedom of navigation and overflight in the East Sea/South China Sea, as well as settling disputes through peaceful means in line with international law.

He also praised Thailand and Cambodia for their serious commitment to the ceasefire agreement and expressed his hope that both nations will continue dialogue and peacefully settle border disputes for the long-term advantage of both parties and the broader region.
