
Vietnam, Cambodia Step Up Trade Cooperation

The Ministry of Industry and Trade reports that Vietnam and Cambodia have strengthened their friendship and collaborative ties across various sectors in recent years. Economic cooperation, trade relations, and investment partnerships have shown particularly impressive progress, transforming their relationship into one characterized by trust, stability, and long-term viability.
The previous year saw bilateral trade volume total around $10.2 billion, representing a three percent growth compared to 2023. During the initial eight months of 2025, trade figures have already reached nearly $8 billion.
According to Vu Ba Phu, who heads the Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam ranks within the top five international investors in its neighboring nation, maintaining more than 210 active projects valued at over $2.9 billion. The investment portfolio from Vietnam primarily targets sectors including agriculture, energy, construction materials, cross-border commerce, and logistics.
He also highlighted that improvements to transportation networks, maritime ports, and border economic areas within Vietnam have enhanced commercial links with Cambodia and additional ASEAN member countries.
Phu emphasized that economic and commercial collaboration between the two nations not only provides concrete financial advantages but also demonstrates their lasting partnership, enduring cooperation, and shared growth. Through forward-thinking leadership, an improving business and investment climate, and active participation from enterprises in both countries, economic partnership will remain a highlight of the comprehensive bilateral relationship.

Throughout the years, both ministries have worked in close collaboration to implement various trade and investment promotion initiatives, including Vietnamese product exhibitions in Phnom Penh, enterprise networking sessions, and cross-border commerce and investment conferences. These initiatives have broadened market opportunities, enhanced commercial exchanges, and fostered better mutual comprehension between businesses, thus supporting sustainable manufacturing and commercial partnerships that align with regional and international integration developments.
Cambodian Ministry of Commerce Undersecretary of State Tith Rithipol emphasized the strong bilateral relationship between the nations, noting that strengthened commercial and investment connections are vital for stimulating economic development and enhancing the quality of life for citizens in both countries.

He urged Vietnamese companies to increase their investments in promising Cambodian industries that offer significant value addition, including automobile production, contemporary farming practices, food manufacturing, electronic goods, digital innovation, financial technology, hospitality, educational services, transportation, supply chain management, and creative sectors.
Conference attendees examined the expanding prospects for economic collaboration between Viet Nam and Cambodia amid worldwide trends toward digital transformation, environmentally sustainable growth, and the incorporation of regional value chains. To capitalize on these prospects, they proposed enhanced reforms in trade facilitation, creating equilibrium between conventional and digital methods to establish a more adaptable, efficient, and enduring framework.
The business sectors from both nations advised that regulatory bodies should continue improving institutional frameworks, streamlining processes, enhancing investment conditions, and bolstering cooperation in border gate administration and commerce management.

Provincial officials from frontier regions highlighted the significance of digital modernization and international online commerce, while emphasizing the necessity for balanced growth of border transportation and logistics systems, especially in An Giang, Tay Ninh, and Long An, which are recognized as essential hubs for establishing the Vietnam-Cambodia supply network.
