VinFast to Launch Electric 2-Wheeler in India in 2026

VinFast, a Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer that began selling its cars in India this year, intends to venture into India’s electric two-wheeler market in the second quarter of the financial year 2026.
This entry is anticipated to enhance competition in the expanding electric scooter market, currently led by local companies like TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, Ather Energy, and Ola Electric.
"The Indian market holds significant promise for electric two-wheelers. In 2026, we intend to introduce two-wheelers in India," stated VinFast Asia CEO Pham Sanh Chau.
The car manufacturer presently offers over six electric scooter models, such as Evo, Feliz, Klara, and Vero, throughout South Asia, and a few of these are expected to be the initial products introduced in India.

Chau mentioned that VinFast is collaborating with the team and channel partners in India to grasp the market and its needs, and a feasibility study is in progress. “We are currently gathering inputs and feedback to introduce our two-wheelers in India.”
VinFast began selling electric vehicles in India in September, offering two models: the VF 6 and VF 7, and operates approximately 26 dealerships. Chau mentioned that numerous dealerships have demonstrated interest in marketing the company's two-wheelers. Several existing dealers have shown strong enthusiasm for becoming two-wheeler dealers," he stated.

The car manufacturer is also set to introduce its electric buses in India, probably next year. Chau mentioned that the company is negotiating with State Transport undertakings from multiple states including Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana to obtain orders for its buses.
VinFast has revealed plans to invest $2 billion (approximately Rs 16,000 crore) in India, including an investment of $500 million for establishing a manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.
The facility now possesses a yearly capacity of 50,000 electric vehicles, with the potential to increase to 150,000 vehicles. The management withheld information regarding the investment and production of electric two-wheelers and buses.

Although the business might sell locally made electric two-wheelers from the start, it is expected to first roll out its buses as Completely Knocked Down (CKD) or Completely Built Units (CBU).
