Thailand is not just one of the world’s favorite tourism hubs but also one of the fastest-growing e-Commerce landscapes in Southeast Asia. Beyond its breezy beaches and sparkling cities, the country constitutes the second-largest e-Commerce market in the region and the 19th-largest globally. According to reports, the logistics market share in Thailand is expected to increase by $8.89 billion from 2021 to 2026, growing at a CAGR of 4.95 percent. The credit goes not only to the industry veterans but also a handful of Young Turks like Dolporn Pitaksit, Head of Sales & Growth strategy (Thailand), Lalamove, who have been crucial in moving up the climate to this tech-ade. 

An emerging women leader breaking stereotypes in the male-dominated industry, Dolporn is on a mission to transform Lalamove, an on-demand delivery platform making delivery fast, simple and affordable, into a future-ready, go-to brand in the region. She possesses a stellar academic background, including a BBA from Chulalongkorn University and an MBA from INSEAD France. Below is an excerpt from our exclusive interview with Dolporn.

As a young leader, you have adapted quickly to the challenging nature of the logistics industry. How would you explain the approach that made it possible?

Balancing scalability and customization has always been a key challenge in the logistics industry. My approach has been to adopt a hyper-local strategy while maintaining a consistent business model and technical structure across all markets where Lalamove operates. This allows us to cater to local needs and build long-term client relationships.

My goal has been to develop solutions that serve multiple sectors, including MMB, retail, e-Commerce, construction, and automotive, ensuring we capture value across these diverse markets. This strategy has paved the path of my professional journey, including achieving profitability and maintaining double-digit growth in transaction volume and active users in Thailand.

Our success stems from targeting the blue ocean market of four-wheel on-demand express services, while others focus on two-wheel riders and competitive pricing. By concentrating on the four-wheel segment, including jumbo trucks capable of carrying up to three tons, we have established ourselves as a top-of-mind brand for on-demand logistics. This focus has solidified our reputation and presence in various markets.

What have been some experiences from Chulalongkorn University that you value and that have made a difference for you?

My academic foundation in business administration, with a major in accounting, has significantly shaped my strategic thinking. It taught me to focus on both the top line and bottom line, prompting me to always consider how we can grow while optimizing costs. This dual focus has been instrumental in my approach.

Beyond academics, the leadership experiences I gained from Chulalongkorn University have also been crucial. I had the opportunity to hold leadership positions in various clubs, even as a first or second-year student. Serving as President of several clubs helped me develop my leadership skills, balance team dynamics, and achieve our collective goals.

Additionally, the Chulalongkorn Alumni Mentoring Program had a profound impact on my professional development. This program pairs students with successful alumni mentors, often entrepreneurs or C-level executives, providing invaluable insights and guidance. Through monthly meetings over ten months, I gained a deeper understanding of business leadership and how to accelerate my career growth. This mentorship prepared me to enter the corporate world with a strong mindset and strategic approach.
