Cybercriminals operate in the hidden corners of the internet, using encrypted messaging apps, anonymous marketplaces, and underground forums to conduct illegal activities. While traditional cybersecurity focuses on securing systems and identifying vulnerabilities, deep and dark web intelligence ventures into these covert spaces to uncover threats before they escalate. By monitoring these channels, it helps track criminal networks, assess digital risks, and provide actionable intelligence.

Stealthmole, a deep and dark web specialized intelligence company, has demonstrated the power of this approach in disrupting cyber-enabled crimes. In a recent case, investigators uncovered a human trafficking and scam operations in Cambodia, along with a group distributing illegal explicit content through encrypted Telegram channels, despite the platform’s anonymity and encryption.

At the helm of Stealthmole is Louis Hur, a cybersecurity veteran with over two decades of experience. He leads a team of white-hat hackers, cyber threat analysts, digital forensic experts, and OSINT specialists, all dedicated to delivering a cloud-based, unified platform for digital investigation, risk assessment, and threat monitoring. Under his leadership, Stealthmole empowers governments, law enforcement agencies, and enterprises with critical intelligence, helping them combat cybercrime, mitigate risks, and strengthen global security.

In the following conversation with CEO Insights Asia magazine, Louis Hur discusses Stealthmole’s expertise in deep and dark web intelligence and its vision for enhancing cybersecurity and countering cyber threats.

How has Stealthmole’s path to success been? What is your strategy for success in the industry?

Focusing solely on our Stealthmole venture, we’ve been operating for two years in the niche field of Dark Web Intelligence. In this time, we have worked to raise awareness about the importance of understanding the dark web and its implications. Our efforts have gained traction, leading to a successful Series A funding round of $7 million last year, which is an indication that the market sees strong potential in this space.

While we acknowledge this progress, we believe success is an ongoing journey. As a startup, we remain focused on evolving, refining our strategies and striving to make a lasting impact in the cybersecurity landscape.

Instead of solely identifying security vulnerabilities in systems and networks, we focus on deep and dark web intelligence, tracking leaked information to assess impact and uncover early warning signs

What challenges have you faced in your journey, and how are you addressing them?

Our biggest challenge so far has been expanding globally and developing effective go-to-market strategies, especially given the varying cultural perspectives and perceptions of the dark web across different regions. To navigate this, we are strategically leveraging our funding to optimize resources, build a strong global partner network with regional expertise and local networks, and increase awareness of our company. Our focus is not only on establishing a presence but also on ensuring that those who need dark web intelligence recognize and trust our capabilities.

How do you foster a culture of innovation in your team?

Fostering an innovation culture starts with openness and transparency within the team. One of my top priorities is ensuring that every employee feels heard and has the opportunity to contribute ideas. To reinforce this, we’ve organized workshops where I share my vision directly with the team, ensuring alignment and a shared sense of purpose.

Innovation can be challenging, but I believe the key lies in open communication and collaboration. We’ve created dedicated spaces for idea-sharing, implemented brainstorming sessions, and encouraged cross-functional discussions to drive innovation.

How does your approach to cybersecurity differ from conventional methods?

My approach to cybersecurity differs from conventional methods. Instead of focusing solely on identifying vulnerabilities, as many incumbent companies do, I specialize in deep and dark web intelligence, particularly in tracking leaked information.

We use AI to identify, index, and process this data, making it human-interpretable. While this form of intelligence may not always serve as the first line of defence, it provides a crucial anchor for assessing the impact of incidents after they occur. That said, in some cases, we can detect early warning signs and recognize threats in formats that traditional security vendors might overlook.

What is your future roadmap? Where do you see yourself in the next few years?

Our future roadmap over the next five years is centered on three key directions, which are not mutually exclusive but could progress simultaneously.

First, we are exploring mergers and acquisitions (M&A) opportunities, potentially partnering with companies seeking deep and dark web intelligence expertise. This would allow us to create synergies and expand our global presence.

Second, following our Series A funding, we are on track to pursue Series B by the end of this year, contingent on meeting our targets. Once achieved, we will move forward with our investors to secure the next round of funding.

Lastly, our long-term vision is ambitious. We aim to become one of Asia’s most influential cybersecurity companies in the threat intelligence space. In just a year, we have already made a significant impact.

Economically, we've assisted in taking down illegal online streaming sites, disrupting revenue streams for cybercriminals. On the law enforcement and justice front, we’ve provided critical intelligence to help track down human trafficking organizations operating in Cambodia. Our goal is to continue uncovering hidden threats within the deep and dark web, not only to prevent economic exploits, but a safer world for all.

What message would you like to share with industry leaders on the significance of cybersecurity?

There are two key points to consider. First, as AI becomes more mainstream, it will fundamentally reshape business operations across industries, including cybersecurity. Future leaders in this field must learn to harness AI effectively to stay ahead.

Second, understanding customer pain points is crucial. Reducing trial and error by addressing their needs directly leads to greater efficiency and more effective problem-solving. A strong focus on customer challenges allows for solutions that deliver real impact.
