Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the largest industrial entity in the UAE beyond oil and gas and the world’s leading producer of ‘premium aluminium,’ has finalized its purchase of an 80 percent share in the Italian aluminium recycling firm Eco Green.
In April, EGA declared its plan to purchase the controlling interest in Eco Green. The transaction has now obtained all necessary regulatory approvals and met closing conditions.

EGA is expanding its worldwide aluminium recycling operations to address the rising global need for low carbon aluminium. According to a report from WAM news agency, EGA now possesses over 400 thousand tonnes annually of aluminium recycling capacity in the UAE, the US, Germany, and Italy, with an additional 200 thousand tonnes of capacity in development.
Europe, not including Russia, ranks as the world’s third-largest market for recycled aluminium, following the United States and China. EGA is a significant supplier of primary aluminium to Europe, distributing approximately 600 thousand tonnes annually to European industries.

Eco Green was established by the Scappini family in 1993. The family continues to be minority stakeholders and part of the management team. The company will be renamed EGA Eco Green.
Eco Green operates two facilities in northeastern Italy and focuses on the collection, sorting, and casting of aluminium scrap, as well as dross processing. The firm delivers over 70,000 tonnes annually.

In Villafranca di Verona, Eco Green gathers, categorizes, and distributes roughly 23,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap each year.
A portion of this scrap is delivered to the Eco Green facility in nearby Nogara di Verona, which produces over 20,000 tonnes of secondary sows annually. The furnace located in Nogara di Verona has a rated capacity of 30,000 tonnes annually. The facility additionally handles dross.
Eco Green is enhancing the Nogara di Verona site to increase recycled aluminium capacity by 20,000 tonnes annually. The completion of the expansion is anticipated in December 2026.
Eco Green serves over 60 clients throughout Europe and has a network exceeding 350 suppliers of aluminium scrap.

In 2024, EGA purchased EGA Leichtmetall in Germany. In December, EGA revealed an extensive expansion initiative aimed at increasing EGA Leichtmetall’s recycling capability by over six times.
In 2024, EGA purchased 80 percent of EGA Spectro Alloys located in the United States. EGA Spectro Alloys finished an expansion in July 2025, increasing its total production capacity to 165 thousand tonnes annually of recycled aluminium ingots and billets. A second expansion phase, which will increase billet capacity by an additional 35 thousand tonnes, is currently in progress, with the initial hot metal anticipated in 2027.
In the UAE, EGA is presently increasing output at the new Al Taweelah recycling facility, which is the largest aluminium recycling plant in the country, with an annual capacity of 185,000 tonnes.
