Previously, Indonesia and Malaysia hold a joint responsibility for safeguarding the area against drug trafficking, stated Indonesia’s National Narcotics Agency (BNN) after a bilateral conference with Malaysia’s Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) in Bali. BNN chief commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto highlighted that drug trafficking is a global crime that necessitates strong collaboration.
BNN emphasized the growing complexity of techniques employed by drug syndicates, pointing out the rise of over 1,400 new psychoactive substances globally. A recent issue is the misuse of etomidate, especially in e-cigarettes, revealed in a hidden lab case in Bali. Suyudi emphasized that the Golden Triangle is still a key pathway for drugs entering Indonesia, with Malaysia acting as a transit center in the regional distribution system. The meeting with Hussein Omar Khan, the director of JSJN Malaysia, took place on the margins of the Colombo Plan Drug Advisory Program (CPDAP). Both parties seized the chance to enhance collaboration in addressing international drug offenses.
