Japan to Hold Ministerial-Level Health Talks With China, S.Korea

Japan has announced that ministerial-level health discussions involving Japan, China, and South Korea will take place in Seoul, with the purpose of addressing heightened tensions between Tokyo and Beijing.

The declaration was made by the health ministry of Japan, stating that Kenichiro Ueno, the Minister of Health, Labor, and Welfare, will be in attendance.

According to reports, the Japanese government revealed that China will be sending a representative from its health ministry instead of the minister.

China delayed a scheduled trilateral meeting among culture ministers with two Asian countries in Macao, citing strained relations between Beijing and Tokyo following controversial comments made by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi regarding a potential situation involving Taiwan.

China considers the self-governing democratic island to be within its territory and maintains that the matter of Taiwan is solely an internal affair.

The Japanese health minister expressed his commitment to strengthening the ongoing collaborative partnership between the three nations. Ueno is set to embark on a two-day visit to Seoul starting this weekend. The annual trilateral conference among the health ministers of the three nations has been consistently conducted since 2007.

The nuclear-capable bombers of the US, along with Japanese fighter jets, were deployed over the Sea of Japan in a demonstration of military strength by the two allied nations, marking their first show of force following a period of heightened tension between Japan and China. The military exercises featured a pair of US B-52 strategic bombers alongside six Japanese F-35 and F-15 fighter jets, as reported by the Japanese Defense Ministry's Joint Staff.

These activities were in response to the combined drills conducted by Chinese and Russian strategic bombers and fighters the previous day, which led to Japan and South Korea deploying aircraft for surveillance purposes.

 

South Korea expressed their concerns through a diplomatic protest following the incident.

Recently, Japan and China have exchanged allegations regarding the conduct of each other's military forces, specifically accusing one another of utilizing weapon targeting radars against their respective aircraft during Chinese naval exercises near Japanese waters.

Japan has observed a rise in Chinese military operations near the Okinawa prefecture in southwest Japan, an area that comprises several islands near Taiwan. There is a growing apprehension in Japan that some of these exercises are being used as a strategy to exert pressure, possibly linked to a ongoing dispute between Beijing and Tokyo.

The conflict arose when Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi made a statement on November 7th suggesting that Japan may consider deploying its military in response to a Chinese naval blockade of Taiwan.
