LG Electronics Emerges as Apple's Home AI Ally

LG Electronics has formed a partnership with Apple in the home artificial intelligence (AI) field, launching a variety of internet of things (IoT) devices that will be incorporated into Apple's ecosystem.
The partnership between the two companies is now expanding into the home appliance industry, transitioning from providing components and integrating services to collaboratively creating finished products. The partnership offers LG Electronics entry into Apple’s worldwide ecosystem, while Apple can utilize LG’s knowledge in home appliances to enhance its position in the smart home sector.

In Manhattan, New York, LG Electronics and Apple co-hosted a product launch event, introducing seven IoT devices. LG Electronics North America CEO Kwack Do-yeong, Head of LG Electronics Home Appliance Solution Platform Business Center Jung Ki-hyun, and Apple Vice President of Hardware Engineering Matthew Costello were present at the event.
Referred to as smart home gadgets, the devices consist of indoor and outdoor cameras, a video doorbell, a smart lock, a smart thermostat, and a temperature sensor. They were jointly created with Apple for the Apple Home Collection and are set to debut first in the US, Canada, and the UK by year’s end.
The latest devices work seamlessly with LG Electronics' AI home platform, LG ThinQ, and Apple's ecosystem, enabling users to monitor their status and manage them remotely. Every device can link to mobile devices, such as iPhones and iPads, and their usage history is automatically saved in the cloud as personalized information for convenient management.
The recent partnership is noteworthy as both companies have collaboratively created finished products from the initial planning phase, instead of merely providing components or incorporating Apple services into LG Electronics’ current offerings.
The partnership between the two companies in the home AI industry arises as the market is becoming a new source of income. Market analyst GMI forecasts the global smart home sector will expand from $186.3 billion in 2023 to $413.7 billion by 2035, achieving a compound annual growth rate of 9.3 percent.

In the recent presentation, Apple introduced HomeView, along with updated versions of the HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K, as it expands into the home AI market.
Nonetheless, Apple has primarily concentrated on consumer electronics and possesses limited knowledge in home appliances and systems like heating, ventilation, and air conditioning devices, smart locks, and security cameras, which makes LG Electronics' proficiency in these fields important as Apple aims to enhance its foothold in the smart home sector.
Although LG Electronics has been improving its home AI ecosystem since 2024, joining Apple's robust ecosystem, supported by over 2.5 billion active devices, could greatly enhance its home AI efforts.
