LS Electric and Infineon Team Up to Power AI Data Center Boom

German semiconductor company Infineon has teamed up with Korean electrical equipment firm LS Electric to create direct current power systems for the AI data center industry.
The firms established a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to work together on technologies aimed at improving energy efficiency, system performance, and scalability in future power infrastructure.
The partners indicated that the agreement was prompted by swift progress in AI and the growing power demand of data centers, requiring innovative and efficient power distribution solutions.
"High-efficiency DC architectures will play a key role in addressing increased energy demand while improving overall system performance and sustainability. By combining Infineon's semiconductor expertise with LS Electric's strength in system integration, we are well-positioned to accelerate the development and deployment of next-generation DC power infrastructure," says Andreas Weisl, executive vice president and chief sales officer of Industrial & Infrastructure at Infineon.

The collaboration will emphasize several key direct-current infrastructure aspects, such as power conversion systems for energy storage, solid-state transformers (SSTs), and solid-state circuit breakers (SSCBs). The collaboration focuses on increasing power and voltage conversion efficiency while boosting system stability and reliability.
According to the MoU, Infineon will aid in enhancing the power infrastructure with its semiconductor offerings, which consist of power semiconductors, microcontrollers, and power management solutions. LS Electric will utilize its expertise in power systems to assist with system-level integration and execution.
