Saudi Aramco Pauses Ras Tanura Refinery After Drone Strike

According to reports, a fire was ignited at Saudi Aramco's Ras Tanura oil refining facility due to an Iranian drone strike, while Saudi Arabia asserted that it successfully defended against the drones.
Reports indicate that two drones that were intercepted and destroyed this morning were attempting to attack the Ras Tanura refinery.
During the interception operation, a controlled fire emerged as a consequence of shrapnel falling, and fortunately, there were no civilian casualties.

According to reports, the interception operation led to shrapnel landing in close proximity to civilians. The event was captured in video widely shared on social media platforms.
Saudi Arabia's national oil company ceased operations at the Ras Tanura refinery after being targeted by a drone attack.
As a precautionary measure, the establishment was closed, and the source indicated that the situation is currently managed.
Located on the eastern coast of Saudi Arabia along the Gulf, Ras Tanura functions as a key center for oil refining and exporting for the kingdom. It is home to one of the largest refineries in the Middle East, capable of processing 550,000 barrels of oil per day.

Previously, Saudi Arabia's heavily protected energy facilities have been the focus of attacks, notably in September 2019 when unprecedented drone and missile strikes on the Abqaiq and Khurais plants led to the temporary disruption of over 50 percent of the kingdom's crude oil output and caused global market disturbances.
The US and Israel conducted a joint military operation on Saturday targeting Iran, resulting in the deaths of numerous high-ranking Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In response, Tehran retaliated by launching a series of drone and missile strikes against Israel, American interests, and various Gulf nations. Up to this point, Iranian military actions have targeted Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.

The recent event has heightened concerns about a potential expansion of an energy crisis as tensions escalate throughout West Asia. The US and Israel carried out missile attacks on various locations in Iran, calling for the population to rebel against the Islamic government. In retaliation, Tehran launched strikes targeting Israel, US military installations, and strategic sites in countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, and Bahrain.
On Monday, crude prices surged significantly due to the escalation of conflict causing disruptions in global energy supply routes. The flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz was severely impeded following drone attacks on at least three oil tankers in the area. Anticipated increases in worldwide energy prices are projected to impact consumers, leading to elevated fuel expenses and higher prices for essential goods, particularly amidst a period where numerous economies are contending with heightened inflation.
