Vietnam Strengthens Ties With East African Countries

The Vietnamese Embassy in Tanzania hosted a ceremony in Dar es Salaam to commemorate the 81st anniversary of Vietnam's National Day (September 2) and the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Ethiopia diplomatic relations (1976-2026), reiterating dedication to enhancing relationships with East African nations.

The gathering was joined by Tanzanian politicians and academics, ambassadors and leaders of diplomatic missions and international organizations, business representatives and partners, the Vietnamese Honorary Consul for the region, and Vietnamese nationals living, studying, and working in the African nation.

Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Tanzania Vu Thanh Huyen, who also oversees Ethiopia, emphasized the importance of National Day on September 2, a historic turning point that marked Vietnam's entry into a period of independence, freedom, and progress. She assessed the nation's key socio-economic successes and advancements in foreign relations and global integration, especially its growing connections with African and East African nations.

The ambassador stated that Vietnam values its friendship and collaboration with African nations, considering Ethiopia a key partner. In the five decades since diplomatic relations were established in 1976, bilateral relations have consistently been reinforced in multiple areas, founded on respect for sovereignty and independence, as well as equality and mutual advantages.

Vietnam values the assistance and partnership of East African nations and anticipates enhancing practical and efficient cooperation, she stated.

 

Ethiopian Ambassador to Tanzania Fekadu Beyene Ayana congratulated the Vietnamese Government and its citizens on Vietnam's National Day while commending the nation's accomplishments in domestic growth and on the global front. He emphasized the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Ethiopia diplomatic relations as a significant milestone showcasing the enduring friendship and collaboration between the two nations, expressing his belief that the bilateral relationship will further develop and strengthen Vietnam-Africa relations.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Mozambique conducted a ceremony at the Museum of Natural History in Maputo to commemorate the 81st anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, attracting over 250 attendees, including Mozambican Minister of Planning and Development Salim Valá, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Defense Casimiro Augusto Mueio, Deputy Attorney General Amabélia Chuquela, along with representatives from the Assembly of the Republic, the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO), diplomatic missions, international organizations, business figures, experts, and the Vietnamese community.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Mozambique Tran Thi Thu Thin emphasized the historical importance of September 2, 1945, and outlined Vietnam's successes following four decades of Doi moi (Renewal), along with its aim to become a developed, high-income country by 2045.

She declared that Mozambique continues to be a key partner in Vietnam’s foreign policy regarding Africa. The bilateral relationship, stemming from both countries’ efforts for national independence, has continued to develop through key collaborative initiatives like the Movitel telecommunications partnership, agricultural cooperation projects, and the input of Vietnamese specialists in education and health.
