Vietnam–Thailand Partnership Set for Stronger Momentum

The imminent official trip to Thailand by the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and State President To Lam is anticipated to generate new energy for bilateral relations, elevating Vietnam-Thailand connections to a higher level, as stated by Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Pham Viet Hung.
Hung emphasized that the trip is particularly important as it represents the first visit to Thailand by a Party General Secretary and State President of Vietnam.

The visit occurs during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Thailand, with bilateral ties developing robustly and extensively.
He stated that the journey will allow leaders from both nations to assess accomplishments from the last fifty years while exploring new avenues for collaboration, enhancing bilateral relations to a more profound and effective tier in accordance with the aspirations of both populations and the aims of regional peace, cooperation, and development.

Assessing the advancement of bilateral relations, the ambassador observed that Vietnam–Thailand connections have consistently improved, especially after Vietnam became a member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Relationships are currently broadening in all areas within the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework set up in May of the previous year.
Political trust has been strengthened by consistent and genuine interactions among important leaders at various levels. The two nations presently uphold 10 mechanisms for cooperation and dialogue that encompass diplomacy, defense, security, and economic collaboration, and over 20 pairs of regions have formed partnerships via memoranda of understanding.
Economic collaboration has become a significant foundation of bilateral relations, he stated, emphasizing that Thailand ranks as one of Vietnam’s top economic allies both within ASEAN and globally.
Thailand is presently in eighth place among foreign investors in Vietnam, featuring almost 800 projects valued at over 15 billion USD.
Bilateral trade has increased significantly, with both parties aiming for a trade volume of 25 billion USD. In the previous year, two-way trade surpassed 22 billion USD, increasing by approximately 10 percent compared to the previous year.
Exchanges between individuals and tourism have become more dynamic, with over one million visits exchanged each year. Approximately one million tourists from Vietnam travel to Thailand annually, whereas between 400,000 and 500,000 Thai tourists visit Vietnam for leisure and business purposes.
Hung states that these exchanges enhance tourism collaboration while also fostering cultural appreciation and generating new prospects for businesses and communities. Collaboration in education, culture, science-technology, and sports has also been consistently upheld.

Concerning the key points of the visit, the ambassador mentioned that discussions and high-level engagements between the General Secretary and President Lam along with Thailand’s senior leaders will enhance political trust and establish a strong basis for increased collaboration among agencies, localities, and citizens of both nations.
Economic collaboration is anticipated to be a key focus, as companies from both sides engage in interactions designed to enhance investment, trade, and wider alliances. Hung mentioned that General Secretary and President Lam will engage with members of the Vietnamese community in Thailand, which consists of over 100,000 individuals. He characterized the Vietnamese community abroad as a symbolic link of friendship that plays a vital role in bilateral relations.
