The transformer, with a capacity of 400 kilovolts and 460 megavolt-amperes, is insulated with synthetic ester oil to protect against heat and electricity.
The company has stated that this innovative oil is significantly more environmentally sustainable than the traditionally utilized mineral oil, as it is highly biodegradable.
The company states that synthetic ester oil, in comparison to mineral oil, possesses a higher flash point which aids in mitigating the risk of fires.
Moreover, the company highlights that synthetic ester oil has a decreased environmental impact in the event of an oil leak, rendering it suitable for locations necessitating both fire safety and environmental protection.
HD Hyundai Electric stated that transformers utilizing environmentally friendly insulating oils necessitate distinct design standards compared to traditional products, resulting in a more intricate manufacturing process.

The challenge arises from the operational features of the equipment, wherein achieving effective heat control and insulation becomes increasingly challenging as voltage and capacity levels rise.
Developing transformers that rely on oil insulation with minimal environmental impact requires a higher level of technical sophistication. The company noted that there are only a limited number of global companies with the capacity to manufacture such products.
Hyundai has introduced their latest transformer in response to the increasing global demand for environmentally friendly transformers. According to the company, market research conducted by Grand View Research indicates that the worldwide market for eco-friendly transformers is expected to expand significantly from $1.22 billion in 2024 to $1.81 billion by the year 2030, reflecting a compound annual growth rate of 6.9 percent.
