A Picture of Asian Business
The quote by Henry Ward Beecher “We should not judge people by their peak of excellence; but by the distance they have travelled from the point where they started”, is very true to its core. In the early 2000s, it was something unimaginable or impossible to calculate the Western to Asian ratio of unicorns, because Asia had no unicorns. Today, Mainland China alone has more companies than US in the fortune 500 and the continent is home to one third of world’s unicorns. In last few years Asia has turned out to be a hub of startups and largest consumer market in the world.
By looking at the spectacular economic growth Asia has acquired in past 60 years, we could expect a shift in world order with Asian economies taking lead as global leaders and advertising their governance model across the world. Already the world being demographically Asian, utilising the strength along with appropriate business strategies will open doors of world to Asia.
Leadership Approaches
Asian business leaders or executives are known for their long term views while taking decisions, institutionalized owner mind set while taking risky decisions, for their strong people orientation, navigating complex business ecosystems effectively and their agility and an ability to survive and thrive. These qualities are strong pillars for the spectacular growth of business.
Ofcourse there are differences in leadership approaches in both West and in Asia, there are no rights and wrongs as development of business ecosystem as well as leadership approaches are influenced by situations of each country. Western organisations have a generally flatter structure which comes with a less prescriptive mode of leadership.
