January 17, 1995. In Kobe, Japan, people were just starting to return from their jobs. The cold Tuesday evening took a disastrous turn as an earthquake wreaked havoc in the city with a magnitude of 6.9 on the Richter scale and tremors lasting for 20 seconds. The Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake claimed the lives of over 6,000 people. The news spread fast. Thousands of kilometers away, Jake Fumitaro Ohama, Founder of Branding Inc. and RABBITWARREN Animation Studios, who was a student of the University of Southern California, was devastated by the agonizing visuals from his home country and wondered if there was anything he could do to help, even in a small way. Fumitaro organized a stu¬dent event to raise donations, which raised about $10,000.
